Lorenz D. Fischer was reunited with his loving wife on October 23, 2021. His beloved wife of 51 years, Cynthia Margot (nee Thomson) Fischer died in 2020 and Larry spent the last year and a half of his life surrounded by family, preparing for the day they would meet again in heaven.
Larry lived a long, happy life of 90 years and died peacefully in his sleep at Brightview Warren Assisted Living Community due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his three sons, Lorenz Jr., Paul, and Michael, his two daughters- in-law Jen and Jenn, as well as his younger brother, Charles Fischer. He was also an adored grandfather to his 5 sweet granddaughters, Holly, Kara, Sierra, Isabelle, and Kayleigh.
Larry was born on July 7, 1931 in a small home in Denville, NJ located in the Indian Lake Community. He was the fourth of five children to Paul and Magdalena (nee Zieglmeier) Fischer. His siblings were Paul, Lee, John and Charlie. He spent much of his childhood fishing, hunting and dragging his little brother Charlie to various events. He was a devout, lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s and St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church. As a Korean war Veteran, Larry eagerly shared interesting Army war stories with family and friends. Larry loved skiing and was a founding member of the Craigmeur Ski Club in Rockaway, NJ as well as the Craigmeur Ski Lodge in West Rutland, VT. He was a devoted, kind father who spent unimaginable hours fishing, hunting, skiing, and working on projects with his sons. Oftentimes, he found himself caring for various animals, dogs, cats, snakes, turtles, frogs, lizards, goats, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc., that his sons or wife brought into the home. Larry and Cynthia’s most recent adoptees, Frankie and Buddy (Chihuahuas), definitely warmed his heart in his final years.
He worked most of his life for the Mechanical Institute in Boonton, NJ as a Tool & Die maker. He loved when his sons would visit, as he could show them the machinery in the shop. Larry enjoyed relaxing with a cup of coffee in his comfy chair and spending time with his family in the Poconos. He especially loved visiting casinos with Cynthia, where they were known to sit at slot machines, happily, for hours on end. (Sometimes they even won a few dollars.)
He will be remembered with love as a true gentleman- funny, smart, patient and strong.
His quiet, reserved personality will surely be missed by all of his friends and family.
